Day 6 - Information Overload
Day 6 of the HotDocs Festival and already I am losing steam. But I boldly press on. Yesterday I caught 2 screenings, the first of which was the amazing Diary Of A Times Square Thief. The film begins when a Dutch filmmaker buys a discarded diary on eBay, and then becomes captivated with the mystery writer, known only as John, who lived in the seedy Times Square area of New York City in the late 80s and early 90s. Can he track down the diary’s owner using only the oblique clues provided by the diary? It’s a great ride as he interviews some of the oddballs, screwballs and kooks that survived, or still inhabit, the 42nd street nexus.
The second screening consisted of two films - Robinsons of Mantsinsaari and The Beekeepers - but both were pretty much crap, and a complete waste of my time. So sad…. Good thing Damian and Nick were on hand at the pub up the road so I could wash away my disdain with a few pints.
