The Luminato Festival in Toronto kicked off last night, and to commemorate there was a free concert in Dundas Square with none other than Canada’s grampa of riff rock Randy Bachman. It was a pretty good show. Lots of old BTO and Guess Who hits. BTO was actually my very first rock’n’roll concert ever. I saw them at the CNE Grandstand one summer long, long ago. In those days if you lived in the ‘burbs (and had unsupportive parents) you wrote a cheque for the amount the tickets cost, you mailed it to the ticket agency, and several weeks later a pair of random tickets were mailed back to you. Imagine my adolescent despair when I finally arrived at the show only to find that my tickets were about 6 rows from being dead last. About as far away as you could get from the stage! But I think I still dug the show anyway. Just like I dug last night’s concert, which was much less expensive and I had much better sightlines.
